The University of Southern Indiana edged Tennessee Tech 2-1 in a closely contested softball game, according to an April 12 report. The win allowed Southern Indiana to claim the series two games to one.
The outcome was decided early, with all runs scored in the first three innings. Both teams’ pitchers kept offenses largely in check for the remainder of the contest. Faith Rush started for Tennessee Tech, pitching three innings and allowing two runs—one earned—on two hits, with three walks and one strikeout. Mia Kiegel earned the win for Southern Indiana after throwing four innings and giving up just one run on five hits while striking out four.
Anna Kemp relieved Kiegel for Southern Indiana, allowing only one hit over nearly three innings before Kylie Witthaus closed out the game by retiring her only batter faced to secure the save. For Tennessee Tech, Ella Wampler finished out the game with four scoreless innings pitched, yielding four hits and striking out two.
Tennessee Tech took an early lead when Ashley Capelouto singled and later scored on a fielder’s choice by Bishop. However, Southern Indiana responded in the third inning as Caroline Stapleton drove in Kate Satkoski with a single; Stapleton then advanced on a throwing error and scored on Sydney Long’s single to center field.
Defensively, Makayli Harris and Abbee Klinefelter made notable plays for Tennessee Tech. Harris threw out a runner at first base after fielding Grace Huffman’s hit to right field, then later doubled off two runners following a flyout.
Looking ahead, Tennessee Tech (14-24 overall; 11-7 Ohio Valley Conference) will host Bellarmine in their next midweek matchup.
