The Tennessee Tech tennis team announced on Apr. 7 that it will play two matches this week as the regular season nears its end. The Golden Eagles are set to travel to Austin Peay for a non-conference match on Wednesday and will then host Southern Indiana on Friday in their final home contest of the season.
These matches are important as Tennessee Tech aims to secure an outright Horizon League South Division title. The team has won four consecutive matches and seven of its last eight, entering this week with an overall record of 11-7 and a perfect 4-0 mark in conference play. In their most recent outing, the Golden Eagles defeated Tennessee State 4-3, which guaranteed at least a share of the division crown. A win against Southern Indiana would clinch the title outright.
Alex Alvarez leads Tennessee Tech with a singles record of 10-5, while Murilo Burckhardt and Davids Spaks have each earned nine singles victories this season. Alvarez and Spaks also lead doubles play for the team with a combined record of 10-5 at the No. 1 position.
Austin Peay enters Wednesday’s match with a record of 4-10 after having its last three contests canceled. Glen Arnet leads Austin Peay in singles wins this spring, while Logan Tomovski and Rohan Loubser have posted a strong doubles performance with a 6-2 record at the top spot.
Southern Indiana arrives in Cookeville holding a record of 4-13 overall and remains winless in conference action after losing nine straight matches. Aaron Dawson and Jy Hibbert lead their squad with eight singles victories each, while Mathys Bove and Adam Koon have secured five doubles wins together for USI.
The Golden Eagles previously defeated Southern Indiana earlier this season by a score of 6-1, capturing both the doubles point and several key singles matches.
