Tennessee Tech’s women’s beach volleyball team earned a win and a loss on April 11 during the final day of the Austin Peay Invitational. The Golden Eagles secured a close 3-2 victory over Southwest Baptist before falling to the host, Austin Peay Governors, by the same score.
The results mark an important moment as Tennessee Tech prepares to conclude its regular season next week at Morehead State during the second Ohio Valley Conference Play Day weekend. The split outcomes highlight both strong performances and areas for improvement ahead of postseason play.
In their match against Southwest Baptist, MK Roberts and Vivian Robards won in straight sets against Melanie Cox and Addi Fanning with scores of 21-19 and 21-17. Cristina Rotola and Savannah Knepp defeated Bre Perez and Maya Keller 21-14, 21-10, while Zoe Mish and Maggie Kamp beat Sara Younkin and Fayth Kaminski decisively with scores of 21-14, 21-8. Other notable performances included Reagan Hoerning and Abbey Garner’s win over Bailey Poppe and Kaesha Walter (21-16, 23-21), as well as Kyana Gabriel and Alanah Craig’s three-set battle against Rory Stanley and Sara Younkin (21-15, 19-21, 15-12).
Facing Austin Peay Governors later in the day, Tennessee Tech took victories in two pairings: Gabriel and Craig bested Emma Loiars and Alyson Cooper (21-19, 21-16), while Mish and Kamp overcame Cami Missig and Emily Freel (21-19, 21-17). However, losses in other pairings led to an overall defeat for Tech. In exhibition play, Aubreigh Oswald and Sage Raby beat Piper Jones and Audrey Kilgore (21-12, 21-17).
As Tennessee Tech heads into its final regular season competition next week at Morehead State’s conference event, the team will look to build on its successes from this tournament.
