Tennessee Tech’s softball team split a doubleheader against Southern Indiana on April 11, winning the first game 4-3 before falling 3-0 in the second matchup.

The games were held at Tech Softball Field, where admission is free to the public. The series finale is scheduled for Sunday at noon.

In the opening game, Faith Rush secured her third win of the season for Tennessee Tech by pitching three innings in relief. She allowed two hits and one walk while striking out four batters. Addison Abell started for Tech, giving up three runs on six hits over four innings with two walks. For Southern Indiana, Elly Robbins took the loss after allowing Tech’s go-ahead run during her brief appearance. Starter Kylie Witthaus pitched five and one-third innings, surrendering three runs on six hits with two walks and three strikeouts.

Tech opened scoring in the first inning when Ashley Capelouto singled to left field, bringing home Olivia Evans. An error on the play allowed Sofia Carroll to advance from first to third base. Southern Indiana responded in the third inning as Alyssa Mumaw’s sacrifice fly drove in Lilly Brown. The Screaming Eagles added two more runs in the fourth inning before Tennessee Tech regained control in their half of the fifth with timely hitting and aggressive baserunning.

In game two, pitchers Anna Kemp of USI and Emily York of Tennessee Tech each went seven innings. Kemp earned a shutout victory by limiting Tennessee Tech to five hits while walking one and striking out three batters. York gave up three runs—two earned—on eight hits with five strikeouts for Tennessee Tech. All scoring occurred early: Mumaw contributed an RBI single followed by another run-scoring hit later in the game as USI built an insurmountable lead.
