Tennessee Tech’s softball team defeated Bellarmine 8-0 in a run-rule victory on Apr. 14, ending the game after five innings.
The win was highlighted by a strong offensive showing from Makayli Harris, who drove in four runs with two hits. Sofia Carroll and Abbee Klinefelter each contributed two hits and two runs batted in for the Golden Eagles.
Bellarmine managed only four hits during the game, with Brooke Shewmaker collecting two of them. The Knights left five runners stranded, including four at third base.
On the pitching side, Tennessee Tech saw solid performances from Addison Abell, Emily York, and Hannah Lange. Abell started and allowed just one hit over two innings while striking out one batter. York pitched the next two frames with two hits allowed and a walk. Lange closed out the game by allowing one hit and one walk but kept Bellarmine scoreless.
Makenzie Cowburn started for Bellarmine, pitching three and two-thirds innings while giving up seven runs on seven hits with five walks and three strikeouts. Ally Richardson finished the game for Bellarmine, allowing one run on one hit.
The Golden Eagles scored early with Carroll coming home in the first inning after a single by Klinefelter. They added another run in the third when Harris singled to bring home Jayla Miller. The fourth inning proved decisive as Tennessee Tech scored six times—highlighted by Harris’s three-run home run over the outfield wall—to secure an eight-run lead.
Bellarmine attempted to rally in the fifth inning but could not score as Lange induced a ground ball to end both their threat and the game due to run-rule regulations.
Looking ahead, Tennessee Tech will face Ohio Valley Conference leader Eastern Illinois this weekend. The series is scheduled for Saturday and Sunday but may be adjusted depending on weather conditions in Charleston, Illinois.
