The Tennessee Tech Golden Eagles men’s tennis team will continue its four-match homestand on Tuesday morning, hosting in-state rival ETSU at the Tech Tennis Courts in Cookeville. The match is set to begin at 11 a.m. Central Time and admission is free.
Tennessee Tech (4-5) has won four of its last five matches, including a narrow 4-3 victory over Lipscomb during Friday’s home opener. In that match, the team overcame a late 3-2 deficit. Davids Spaks evened the score with a three-set win at the No. 3 singles position, followed by Alex Alvarez securing the overall victory with his own three-set triumph at No. 2 singles. Both Spaks and Alvarez lead the team with four singles wins each this season.
Murilo Burckhardt and Diego Munoz have each recorded three singles victories in spring play, while Oliver Dao earned his first win of the season from the top singles spot on Friday. Dao has played all his matches this year as Tech’s No. 1 singles player.
In doubles action, Spaks and Alvarez are ranked No. 79 nationally and have compiled a 4-4 record playing exclusively at No. 1 doubles. Burckhardt and Munoz also have four wins together, posting a 4-3 record at No. 3 doubles.
ETSU (9-3) arrives in Cookeville riding a nine-match winning streak after starting their spring campaign with three straight losses—two against Tennessee and one against Wake Forest. The Buccaneers most recently secured a comeback win over No. 42 Charlotte on Sunday in Johnson City, overcoming a late deficit for a 4-3 victory.
Oscar Martinez remains undefeated in singles play for ETSU this season with a perfect 9-0 record at the top of the lineup. Kai Cowcher follows with an overall mark of 8-4 across several positions: he is winless at No. 2 but unbeaten or above .500 in other slots.
In doubles competition for ETSU, Martinez pairs with Martin Vergara for a team-best record of 5-2, all from the No. 1 position.
Tuesday’s match marks the teams’ 39th meeting overall; ETSU leads the series with a record of 24 wins to Tennessee Tech’s 14 and has won ten consecutive encounters between the programs, including last year’s meeting—a 6-1 decision for ETSU on March 4, 2025, in Johnson City.
