The Tennessee Tech men’s golf team announced on May 7 that it has accepted an invitation to participate in the fourth GOLFWEEK National Golf Invitational Championship.
The event, which will take place from May 21 through May 24 at Ak-Chin Southern Dunes Golf Club in Maricopa, Arizona, offers another opportunity for the team to compete after a strong performance in the Ohio Valley Conference Men’s Golf Championship.
Tournament organizers said the format will follow traditional college rules. Each team will field five players and count the four best scores toward their total. Both individual and team champions will be decided after 54 holes of play, with playoffs held if necessary.
A notable aspect of this championship is that the men’s individual winner will receive an exemption to play in the PGA’s Butterfield Bermuda Championship at Port Royal Golf Course in Southampton, Bermuda, scheduled for October 22-25.
In their most recent outing at the Ohio Valley Conference Championship, Tennessee Tech finished third during stroke play to qualify for match play. The Golden Eagles then defeated UT Martin by a score of 5-0 before facing Little Rock in the championship round, where they ultimately fell to the Trojans.
Participation in this national invitational gives Tennessee Tech another chance to showcase its abilities on a prominent stage.
