Tennessee Tech lost to UT Martin, 8-4, in an Ohio Valley Conference baseball game on April 11 at Skyhawk Field.
The loss marks another setback for the Golden Eagles, who have struggled in conference play this season. The team now holds a record of 11-24 overall and 1-10 in the Ohio Valley Conference.
UT Martin built an early lead by scoring two runs in the first inning and maintained pressure throughout the game with a total of 15 hits and runs scored in five different innings. Tennessee Tech narrowed the gap with a bunt single from Jackson Rooker that led to an unearned run in the third inning. In the fifth inning, Jorsixt Jimenez hit a two-run double that brought Tech within one run of UT Martin’s lead.
Owen Lee contributed with a solo home run to right field in the seventh inning, his ninth of the season and second consecutive game with a home run. Rooker led Tennessee Tech with two hits, while Jimenez drove in two runs and Lee added another RBI.
Pitcher Jaxson Pease took the loss after allowing five runs on ten hits over six and one-third innings. Reece McDuffie pitched one and two-thirds innings in relief. Defensive errors affected Tennessee Tech’s performance as three of their four runs were unearned.
UT Martin regained control during the middle innings, especially after scoring three runs—including a two-run homer—in the seventh inning to secure their win. The final game of this series is scheduled for tomorrow at 1 p.m.
