Tennessee Tech lost to Austin Peay by a score of 17-7 in a run-rule shortened game on April 14. The contest ended after seven innings, with the Golden Eagles unable to hold an early lead.

The outcome is significant as it continues Tennessee Tech’s challenging season, bringing their record to 12-25 overall and 2-10 in conference play. Despite showing offensive strength early and tying the game late, the team could not overcome Austin Peay’s late surge.

Tennessee Tech started strong with two runs in the first inning, thanks to RBI singles from Nash Crowell and Eddie Garza. Crowell added another run with a sacrifice fly in the third inning. After falling behind due to a four-run fifth inning by Austin Peay, Tennessee Tech rallied in the sixth. Crowell hit a two-run double and Connor Crowson followed with a two-run single, tying the score at 7-7.

However, Austin Peay responded immediately with four runs in their half of the sixth inning and six more runs in the seventh. Trevor Conley and Cole Johnson led their offense, each going 3-for-4 with home runs.

On pitching duty for Tennessee Tech were eight different players. Justin Fallon started on the mound for two innings; Drew Mattox pitched nearly two innings of relief; Alex Kuntz and Reece McDuffie handled middle frames; Braxton Lewis took the loss after allowing four runs during Austin Peay’s key rally.

Looking ahead, Tennessee Tech will host Southeast Missouri State University (SEMO) for a three-game series beginning Friday, April 17 at 6 p.m.
