Jeremiah Oatsvall
Jeremiah Oatsvall certainly made the best of his one season with the Tennessee Tech football team.
An excellent student-athlete on the field, Oatsvall also excelled in the classroom and he was recognized for it on Thursday night as he was named a Charles W. Hawkins III University Scholar-Athlete by the Middle Tennessee chapter of the National Football Foundation and College Football Hall of Fame.
The award recognizes academics, on-the-field accomplishments and community service.
Graduating from Tech in December with a master's of education in Curriculum and Instruction, Oatsvall completed his academic efforts with a 3.33 grade-point average, earning a spot on the Tech Athletic Director's Honor Roll.
The 2022 Robert Hill Johnson Award winner, Oatsvall finished the season with 2,742 yards of total offense, averaging 249.3 yards per game. He also completed 199 of his 324 passes for 2,271 yards and 19 touchdowns, while also rushing for 471 yards and five more touchdowns.
His efforts rank third in a single season in total offense, trailing Bailey Fisher (3,132 in 2019) and Michael Birdsong (2,803 in 2016), while his passing numbers put him with the eighth-best single season behind Fisher (2,643 in 2019), Birdsong (2,577 in 2016), Robert Craft (2,448 in 2002 and 2,385 in 2004), Grant Swallows (2,361 in 2001), Tre Lamb (2,342 in 2011) and Lee Sweeney (2,292 in 2007).
Oatsvall's 24 combined touchdowns stand second best in a single season, trailing only Fisher's 32 in 2019.
He was a regular fixture in the Tech football team's community outreach efforts around the Upper Cumberland and helped lead the team to its fifth-straight OVC Sportsmanship Award for Football.
