Lindenwood defeated Tennessee Tech in a 10-inning baseball game on May 8 with a walk-off home run, ending the contest 6-5. The game took place at Lou Brock Sports Complex in St. Charles, Missouri.

The result was significant for both teams as it marked the opening of an Ohio Valley Conference series and could impact league standings.

Tennessee Tech started strong offensively and had a solid pitching performance from sophomore Carter Casabella, who completed six innings and allowed only two earned runs. Early hits from Landon Smelser, Jorsixt Jimenez, and Owen Lee helped the Golden Eagles take a quick lead. Manny Garza contributed with key runs batted in during the first inning to put Tennessee Tech ahead by three runs.

Despite Casabella’s efforts on the mound, Lindenwood rallied late in the game. Errors by Tennessee Tech allowed Lindenwood to score three unearned runs across the sixth and seventh innings. In response, Tennessee Tech regained the lead briefly in the seventh after another RBI single from Lee and a sacrifice fly by Garza.

The Lions tied the game again following another defensive error by Tennessee Tech before Will Geary of Lindenwood hit a home run to end it in extra innings. Jimenez led Tennessee Tech’s offense with three hits and two runs scored while Smelser, Lee, and Eddie Garza also had multi-hit games.

Game two of this weekend series is scheduled for Saturday afternoon at Lou Brock Sports Complex.
