Tennessee Tech senior outfielder Jorsixt Jimenez was named a semifinalist for the 2026 Dick Howser Trophy, according to a May 15 announcement. The award is considered the most prestigious in college baseball and is often referred to as the “Heisman of Baseball.”
The Dick Howser Trophy recognizes outstanding performance in college baseball, and being selected as a semifinalist highlights Jimenez’s achievements during the season. The list of 48 semifinalists will be narrowed down to finalists on June 4, with winners announced on June 12 in Omaha before the start of the NCAA College World Series.
Jimenez, who is in his second year at Tennessee Tech and hails from Puerto Plata in the Dominican Republic, leads his team with a .402 batting average, 54 runs scored, 78 hits, 16 doubles, four triples, 19 home runs and 67 runs batted in through Thursday night’s game against Morehead State. In Ohio Valley Conference rankings, he stands first in RBI and ranks among the top players in several other categories including batting average and home runs.
Nationally among Division I players, Jimenez ranks sixth in slugging percentage (0.820), ninth in total bases and holds top-30 positions across multiple offensive statistics such as batting average and home runs per game. His current season places him tied for eighth-most home runs by a Golden Eagle player in a single season.
The Dick Howser Trophy has been awarded since its establishment nearly four decades ago to honor Florida State All-America shortstop and Major League manager Dick Howser. Voting is conducted by members of the National College Baseball Writers Association.
Jimenez joins previous Tennessee Tech players Dylan Bosheers (2014), Chase Chambers (2018), A.J. Kirby-Jones (2010), Daniel Miles (2014), Zach Stephens (2012) and Kevin Strohschein (2018) as program semifinalists for this award. The Golden Eagles are scheduled to play Morehead State tonight at Averitt Express Baseball Complex.
